– Lourdes Biedma Velázquez. He holds a degree in Sociology and is a research technician at IESA-CSIC (Spain).
The three of them are part of the IBC research line at IESA-CSIC (Spain) and the topic they present is part of their latest research project “Social legitimacy of pain. A key aspect of its social dimension” corresponding to the State Program of R&D&I Oriented to the Challenges of Society of the 2018 call (reference RTI2018-099483-B-I00)
Language: Spanish
Summary:
In the Webinars they will present a summary of the project they have carried out with the title “Social legitimacy of pain”. Rafael Serrano will contextualize the project within sociology, and in the context of the concept of pain as an experience both individual and social, analyzing its multidimensionality. He will also explain the methodological approach that has been followed to study the social legitimacy of pain.
For her part, Isabel García will talk about the study based on qualitative research techniques (8 discussion groups and 19 in-depth interviews) whose objective was to collect first-hand information on what elements were behind the legitimacy or lack thereof in pain, collecting the social discourse and the personal experience of people affected by different types of pain.
Finally, Lourdes Biedma will share the results of the study based on quantitative techniques: a survey carried out on 1,600 people aged 18 or over, the aim of which was to try to measure which elements influenced said legitimacy. The type of pain suffered and the one that generates the greatest support in society were analysed.
We consider that the social dimension is important in the study of pain, which has been little addressed, and that this study can serve to better understand the painful phenomenon.
