Elena López Mañogil
Elena López Mañogil holds a degree in Psychology from the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) and a Master’s Degree in General Health Psychology. Her professional career combines clinical and social psychology with a strong focus on biomedical research.
She currently works with the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Early Adversity Association (ASAFAD) and as a research technician at the Alicante Institute for Health and Biomedical Research (ISABIAL), within the Clinical Pharmacology Department. Previously, she worked as a social action technician at Cáritas Lorca, supporting homeless people and individuals with substance use-related problems, and volunteered with Proyecto Hombre Murcia, accompanying people undergoing substance withdrawal and rehabilitation processes. She also has experience supporting people with intellectual disabilities.
Her additional training includes numerous courses related to clinical research, Good Clinical Practice, pharmacology, statistics, and scientific methodology, as well as specific training in addictions, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, couples therapy, and the application of a gender perspective in healthcare.
In the clinical field, she has completed training at the Addictive Behaviours Unit in Alicante and clinical placements at Dr. Balmis General University Hospital. At the same time, she has been part of research groups focused on neuropharmacology applied to pain and on clinical psychology, health, and stress.
Her research activity has focused particularly on chronic pain, opioid deprescribing, addictions, and associated psychological factors. She has participated in funded research projects, scientific publications — including an article in PLOS ONE — and numerous national and international conferences. She has also taken part in scientific outreach activities and was awarded a collaboration grant by the Spanish Ministry of Education to support the development of her Master’s thesis.
Overall, she has a specialised profile in health psychology and clinical research, with experience both in direct patient care and in the development and dissemination of scientific projects related to mental health, addictions, and chronic pain.
