Elena Català Puigbò

Graduate in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Specialist in Anesthesiology and Doctorate (PhD) from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Senior Consultant Physician and Head of Unit of the Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Pain Treatment Service. Director of the Pain Unit at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. Her extensive teaching activity materializes in her responsibility as Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain. Department of Surgery. Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​her participation in different Masters and Courses such as: Master in pathophysiology and pain treatment of the Autonomous University of Barcelona 2007-2009. Postgraduate course in "Research and Pain" from the University of the Basque Country. 2011-2013. Master in "Palliative Care and End of Life". Topic: Invasive Techniques in patients with pain due to Cancer. UAB- 2014, 2015, 2016. Master in “Pathophysiology and Treatment of PAIN” from the University of Valencia. Topic: Opioids in Acute and Chronic Pain. 2014-2016. Courses of the European Federation of Teaching of Anesthesiology, in the headquarters of Barcelona and Mexico (Monterrey). Organizer of courses and training activities for Anesthesiologists and Primary Care physicians. DOLOR2016: Intensive theoretical and practical course on nerve block, Course on interventional techniques in chronic pain. She has also participated in the publication of books, such as the Pain Treatment Manual “First, second, third and fourth edition (2003-2008-2015-2020) and collaborated with more than 100 Chapters and in national and international books related to pain treatment.

Her participation in research projects, as a leader or collaborator, is reflected in the publication of 36 scientific articles in international journals and 67 articles in national journals and more than 200 presentations at national and international conferences.

She has been President of the Catalan Society of Pain during the period 2011-2015 and participated in the development of Health Plans such as: Stress Management Plan for the Elderly in Patients Affected by Chronic Pain. Her professional career has led her to receive various awards, including: Jaume Raventós Award from the Catalan Society of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Pain Therapy (1989). Special Distinction from the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Management. ESRA – Spain (2011) and Award for Professional Excellence (2016) in the field of Hospital Medicine awarded by the College of Physicians of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
