Maria Isabel Martin Fontelles

Graduated in Medicine and Surgery and Doctor of Medicine from the Complutense University of Madrid, she has worked most of her professional life as Professor and Chair of Pharmacology at the Juan Carlos I University of Madrid. A tireless researcher, she has led or participated in 28 research projects with public or private funding, whose main lines of research have been: Analgesia studies, involvement with the opioid and cannabinoid system. Evaluation of new analgesics. Recording of contractile activity of isolated preparations in organ baths. Behavioral activity studies. Drugs with actions on the Central Nervous System. Immunohistochemical characterization of peripheral neurons and recording of neuronal electrical activity in the myenteric plexus or Gastrointestinal motility studies.

This activity has been transferred with the execution of R&D contracts with the Industry on 34 occasions, having participated in the development and invention of 6 national and international patents in the field of some drugs with cannabinoid properties and the use of sigma ligands associated with pain, all reflected in the publication of 110 articles in International Scientific Journals with Impact Factor and 25 in National journals and the edition of several books in more than 25 chapters related to the pathophysiological mechanisms of pain and the pharmacology applied to it.

His intense research work has been combined and integrated into his extensive teaching activity, directing 29 doctoral theses and 19 Diplomas of Advanced Studies and organizing or participating in numerous post-graduate courses in addition to his own University activity.

Her scientific communications have been awarded in numerous congresses and meetings of different National and International Scientific Societies, as Maribel deserves for her human and professional profile.
